Whether your summer beach getaway plans involve Atlantic City or Antibes, Swann Galleries’s Vintage Posters auction on August 7 has something to fit the mood. This circa 1935 poster by Edward M. Eggleston (no known relation to the famed photographer), “Atlantic City/Pennsylvania Railroad,” showing a bathing beauty in front of the busy beach and boardwalk, and the grand architecture of the hotels, is expected to fetch between $7,000 and $10,000. “Antibes,” (circa 1928), by Roger Broders, carries the same estimate.
In addition to beach resort travel images, the sale will also offer “excellent examples from a variety of genres including WWI and WWII propaganda and Art Nouveau,” according to Swann specialists. Another expected highlight is Adrien Barrère’s 1902 “Tout Paris a La Revue des Foiles Bergere,” showing a high-society Parisian crowd mingling on the red carpet outside the legendary music hall.
